Howdy!
My name is Sophia M. Gulutzo (pronounced Guh-loot-zoh) and I am a master's student in the Graduate Degree Program at Colorado State University. I began my life stomping around in the Ozark and Ouachita mountains of Arkansas, where I eventually recieved my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2022. I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2023 to pursue my Master's degree in Ecology. My current research explores topics related to insect overwintering, bumble bee nesting, and bumble bee movement ecology. I've got a couple of passion projects including co-leading Growing Food Security (see the "Extras" section of this site for more on this!). In my free time, I love skiing, fishing, gardening, birding, and crafting.
In undergrad, I worked in Dr. Arijit Mukherjee's lab at the University of Central Arkansas studying plant-microbe symbioses. Through internships and coursework I found a deep love for entomology (despite being a former bug-hater) and was lucky to connect with Dr. John Mola at CSU where I began my grad work. I will graduate with my M.S. in Fall 2025, after which I go to seek a Great Perhaps.
I have really, really broad interests from bees to birds to toads. I am passionate about my work with pollinators, but I'd be open to expanding into broader fields like movement ecology and conservation genetics. I am both open to work and love to chat research and collaborations, so feel free to contact me!
